HISTORY OF SIERRA HOUSE COOKIE DOUGH
In 2009, Keely Freeman saw cookies as a way to bring revenue to Sierra House to help support programs and general operating expenses. Because she was not a baker and wanted the cookies to be unique, original, and something that consumers would remember, Freeman sought out the help of a local baker, who created a kosher, all natural cookie dough line to be sold exclusively to Sierra House Cookies, where each type of cookie resembled some of the unique personalities and character traits of the young women residing at Sierra House.
Keely holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from Rutgers University and a Masters in Public and Nonprofit Management & Policy from New York University. She is most proud of her achievements in community service and is committed to improving the quality of life for homeless and at-risk youth. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering and spending time with family and friends.
Keely Freeman is the Founder and Executive Director of Sierra House, Inc. Founded in 2002, Sierra House provides homeless young women, ages 18 to 25 years old, and their children with supportive services, safe housing, and an opportunity for a productive life. Under her leadership, the organization has been successful in increasing self-sufficiency among at-risk and homeless youth through life skills, education, and personal finance, which ultimately improves the development of the community as a whole.
Keely also serves the community in other ways. In 2007, she was appointed as a Commissioner of the East Orange Housing Authority where she serves as the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee and she also serves on the Junior League of The Oranges & Short Hills Community Advisory Board. Prior to entering the nonprofit world, Keely worked in investment banking on Wall Street.
